De Scolopacidae-familie, beter bekend als strandlopers en snippen, is een diverse groep waadvogels die wereldwijd voorkomt. Deze vogels staan bekend om hun slanke snavels, lange poten en gespecialiseerde foerageergedrag, waarbij ze vaak in modder of zand naar ongewervelde dieren zoeken. Tot deze familie behoren onder andere strandlopers, wulpen, grutto’s, snippen en franjepoten. Veel soorten zijn trekvogels die in de Arctische gebieden broeden en in kust- of wetlandgebieden overwinteren. Dankzij genetische studies is de taxonomie van deze familie in de afgelopen jaren herzien, wat heeft geleid tot een beter begrip van de onderlinge relaties binnen de groep.
